Phnom Penh, November 21, 2024– In a significant policy shift, Prime Minister Hun Manet has announced a halt to the issuance of licenses for new beer factories, citing the presence of seven existing breweries in Cambodia. This decision was revealed during his speech at the closing ceremony for the Ministry of Mines and Energy’s 2023 and 2024 work results, as well as the conference outlining goals for 2025.
During his address, Prime Minister Manet emphasized the sufficiency of beer production capacity in the country, stating, “With seven operational beer factories already established, there is no immediate need for additional domestic breweries.” He noted that this decision aims to maintain balance in the market and ensure sustainable development within the industry.
However, the Prime Minister clarified that licenses would still be granted for beer factories intended for export purposes. “We will support ventures that focus on export, as they can contribute to our economy and create job opportunities,” he added.
